SPED 509 - Teaching Reading to Learners with Disabilities
(3 credits) Prerequisite: SPED 202 with a minimum grade of “B” or SPED 510 with a minimum grade of “B” This course will investigate the etiology of reading disabilities: physical, cultural and environmental. The Literacy Continuum and specific language programs will be analyzed. Effective commercially available reading programs and research-based instructional strategies that are useful for teaching students with reading disabilities will be emphasized. Field-based experience may be required.
